AIRMAGNET StreetWISE
Professional Security for Your Wireless End-Points
Modern laptop PCs are designed for ease of use and flexibility, and are packed with connectivity options to help users easily get information in and out of their laptop. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, infrared (IrDA), EVDO, and Firewire are all standard options supplementing the traditional wired Ethernet connection. However, in terms of enterprise security, these networking options make it far easier for employees to accidentally compromise the data on their laptops. This risk only grows when the laptop travels beyond the corporate network and into the unmanaged world of hot-spots and public networks. AirMagnet StreetWise provides a professional end-point security solution that protects all of your wireless laptops regardless of where they are. StreetWise gives administrators full control over all types of wireless connections, sets strict security standards, and automatically prevents dangerous end-user behavior that could put the laptop at risk.
Key benefits include:
- Lock down all types of wireless connections on any laptop
- Enforce minimum security standards for all Wi-Fi connections
- Limit wireless connectivity to approved APsor networks
- Prevent common end-user mistakes such as dual-homing or ad-hoc networks
- Set flexible policies that adapt to the end-user's location
Lockdown Unapproved Connections
To secure a wireless laptop, administrators must
first get control over the basics of how
information can get into and out of the
machine. AirMagnet StreetWise lets admins
create simple policies that approve specific
types of connectivity and ports, while disabling
all others. This provides full control over:
- Wi-Fi Connections (11a,b, and g)
- Bluetooth
- Infrared (IrDA)
- FireWire
- Serial / Parallel
- Modem
Set Standards for Secure Wi-Fi
As most network administrators know, not all Wi-Fi security measures are created equal. AirMagnet StreetWise takes this into account and lets administrators define their minimum standards for a secure wireless connection. This guarantees that every time an end-user makes a Wi-Fi connection it conforms to an enterprise standard of security. Administrators can enforce basic security such as WEP, and even specifiy the proper key length (64 or 128). When stronger security is required, StreetWise can also enforce more sophisticated security measures including WPA.
Use Only Approved APs and Adapters
AirMagnet StreetWise lets administrators define a "white list" of approved access points which users are allowed to connect to. The AirMagnet software then only displays approved APs and will prevent connections to any unapproved APs. Admins can also define approved network adapters and modems on the laptop. This ensures that users only use company-approved cards and prevents users from cirumventing policy by simply putting in new hardware or adapters.
Prevent Common User Mistakes
AirMagnet StreetWise also monitors protected laptop PCs for a variety of enduser behaviors that can compromise the security of the laptop. This includes prevention of such common dangers as ad-hoc network connections and client adapter bridging. Additionally, the solution can disable wireless network connections (Wi-Fi, EVDO, etc.) in the presence of a wired connection. This protects end-users from the effects of bridging or "dual-homing" which can allow hackers to exploit a PC's wireless connection to gain access to the enduser's wired network.
Location Awareness
AirMagnet StreetWise supports security policies that adapt to the end-user's current location. For example, an administrator can choose to allow Wi-Fi only when in the corporate office, and only enable dial-up when outside the office. This ensures that the security on the end-point stays at an appropriate level as the end-user moves from place to place. StreetWise can automatically determine the user's current location by matching the local network against network settings for known locations such as Gateway Servers, DHCP Servers, DNS, approved APs and more. Admins can also build generic policies for a variety of environments such as hotspots, hotels or home offices.
Client Self-Defense
AirMagnet StreetWise is a true enterprise security product and is engineered to be tamper-proof. Once a policy is deployed on a machine, the end-user can not uninstall the software, change the policy or manually override any network settings (note: StreetWise Personal does allow for end-user control. See below for more details). If needed, admins can use an optional secret password to allow users in the field to temporarily override the policy in an emergency.
3 Flexible Options
AirMagnet StreetWise is offered in 3 software options to conform to any user's needs.
• StreetWise Personal - Free software download available directly from AirMagnet's website. Allows the end-user full control over all policies.
• StreetWise - Administrator controlled version of the software. Admins create policies and manually install the solution on end-user laptops.
• StreetWise Central - Administrator controlled version that can be managed from a centralized server for maximum control and ease-of-use.
